A loneliness that is unshakable. So many hits, so many losses. One day after another and it accumulates into the heft of sand right above one’s chest. A solitude often unforeseen because of the sudden death of a loved one. Each day leaves a trail of memory reminding us of our interconnectivity; that current of light that binds us all.

love will rescue you
back from the sea;
unmitigated waves
of solitude washing
away joy, cleansing
what is left of remedy
(I have) to perk up this
sorrow– I am mourning
you as I have since
waking up beside
lifelessness, this
morbid melancholy you
leave behind– my only
inheritance lies in
the fear that I haven’t
shown you enough, of
love, in this armor
and sword I combat
your loneliness
